The Chase that Never Ends
I was on my way to VBS this morning, and as usual was running a bit late. I turned the radio on and flipped to a station that normally has good Christian music. Instead of music, this time it was a sermon. I normally skip through those because I’m not a fan of talking radio stations. I like my music ;). This was different. He was talking about self-worth, so I began to listen. God spoke to my heart through this sermon and reminded me of the vision He first gave me to help girls.
My greatest desire is to see you grow in the Lord.
I want you to truly understand who YOU are in HIM. Sometimes, I need the reminder myself. The preacher was talking about a parable I’m sure we have all heard several times: The Prodigal Son. He had it all. His father’s servants were well taken care of, so it’s safe to assume he probably wasn’t in need of anything himself. He had a father who loved him unconditionally; who saw no flaw in him, but that wasn’t enough. He wanted MORE. He wanted to satisfy his fleshly desires. He saw his self-worth being fulfilled in the world and he chased after it. He looked to money, parties, and girls to find that worth and he couldn’t. THAT is what I’m afraid most of us girls do quite often. We turn to sex, relationships, drugs, alcohol, and you name it. We search the world to find it, but just like the prodigal son we will always come up empty. You may like the way all of those “things” make you feel, but inside you still feel worthless. I would LOVE for you to know your worth, but there’s one word that usually stands in the way--SELF.
Don’t look for self-worth, look for WORTH. <I know exactly where you can find it.> OPEN YOUR BIBLE.
PRAy.
Seek a relationship with Him, and you will find that you end up more than satisfied. Maybe you’re afraid. You have made so many mistakes it’s too late for you, right? If that’s you, then you have forgotten the end of the parable. Luke 15:20: “And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.” This is a beautiful picture of our Father. He stands waiting, with arms wide open. All you need to do is turn to Him. It’s not too late. He wants you to know how beautiful you are. Don’t look to the world’s mirror to define who you are. Look at Jesus. Read his Word and apply it to your life. That is where you will find your worth.
