I Quit.

Dear struggling girl,

You will hear over and over again in your life the phrase: Don’t quit. When life is hard, don’t quit. When you get your heart broken, don’t quit. When you lose a job, don’t quit. When things don’t go your way, don’t quit.

Maybe what you are struggling with requires this phrase: QUIT. Quit now. There have been several moments in my life I needed to hear, “Kaleigh, it’s time to quit.”

Do you find yourself believing the toxic lie that you aren’t good enough? You’re not pretty enough? It’s time to quit allowing Satan’s lies to cover what the blood of Jesus has already done.

When I was a junior in high school I went on a mission’s trip to Jamaica. We visited a place called the infirmary. This was a place people were sent to die. Maybe they were really sick, or just missing a leg. If they did not look “normal,” they were sent to the infirmary. The smells were horrific. There really is no way to describe this place. I had never seen anything like it. The people there were swarmed with flies and sometimes maggots. They were lucky if they were able to get rinsed off with a hose once a week.

The first day we were able to go to the infirmary, I had to walk with a leader because I was so scared. The next thing I saw had me mesmerized. One of the college female leaders was on her hands and knees singing a hymn while BATHING one of the residents. My eyes filled with tears and I couldn’t stop watching. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.

If I were to look at this girl through the worlds eyes, she would never be on the cover of a magazine. But to me, she is still the most beautiful girl I have ever seen.

That scene changed my life. For the first time, I began to evaluate the way that I looked from the heart.

Maybe you don’t see the beauty Christ created you with. You have scars and you have flaws. Your hair isn’t blonde, your eyes are brown, and you aren’t tall enough. I get it. I really do. It still is a struggle for me too!

But maybe we just need to quit. Quit looking for the approval of man. Quit examining every flaw and wishing we could change. Quit looking in the mirror instead of the Word of God. What if one day a young girl encounters a scene where she gets to witness YOUR heart in action.

It’s time to quit.
