When Life Doesn't Give You Lemons...

When life doesn't give you lemons... God gives you direction!

Allow me to share with you a quick story that happened yesterday:

My husband and I went on a road trip to visit family in North Carolina. It was AWESOME!

On our 715 mile drive back home, all started out great. We left on time, (had some Chick-Fil-A breakfast- YUM!) and despite some traffic we were making some pretty good time.

Somewhere in Georgia as Brian was driving I found myself immersed in the lives of the characters from the Left Behind series (great books- you should check them out!) when all of a sudden I was slapped back into reality with a loud BAM! I looked forward to see what it was and our entire windshield was s h a t t e r e d.

The truck we were behind had run over a tire which caused it to spin up in the air and land on our windshield. WHAT?!

God shows He loves us by providing and protecting:

  • We were 1/4 mile away from a rest stop, so we were able to pull over quickly and figure out our next step.

  • That thing should have killed us. Just saying.

BUT...

  • We're six hours from home and uh-- 1. can't really see through our windshield and 2. we're afraid this thing will shatter completely at any moment.

  • The windshield businesses our insurance company referred us to can't replace our windshield until Monday. Yea, we can't wait in the middle of nowhere for two days. Not happening.

WHAT DO WE DO?!

We were back and forth with car dealerships, glass businesses- you name it. After an hour Brian and I were looking at each other and just kept saying, "I have no idea what to do now. We can't drive anywhere, we know no one here, what in the world do we do?" We were both shaky, stressed, -not to mention hangry... this was not in our plans.

We had no lemonade to make. Life did not give us any lemons to make it with. What did we do?

We prayed.

We asked God to take the lead because obviously we kept hitting dead ends. We asked God to provide us with some direction to take because we saw no way out.

Ever feel that way? Where every step you take is getting you nowhere except to a place where you keep asking yourself, "What do I do now?"

S T O P.

Pray. God answers. He provides. He protects. He leads to abundance. He sustains. He is our Rock.

Just look at all these verses that explain it WAY better than I ever could:

If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. - John 15:7

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. - Hebrews 11:6

Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved. - Psalm 55:22

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. - Psalm 37:4-5

If you're having a bad day, week, month, season, just stop and pray. God provides and protects ALL THE TIME. Ask God to give you the direction to go in, and don't hesitate to be specific in your prayer.

God provided for us by leading us to the exact glass company that was able to get a brand new windshield for us by the time we rolled in their garage. He protected us from injury. We got a bite to eat, our insurance covered the whole cost of the damage, AND it didn't start to rain until after our new windshield was installed! God is GOOD.

He'll guide us, it's up to us to follow.
